About Estate of Flux

Estate of Flux is run by me, Lucy, with sporadic contributions of brilliance from invited guest posters, people whose ideas, views and voice I think need to be heard! I curate inspiring developments and insights on my favourite things: Communications, Online Media, Psychology, Technology, and Design. Information on services offered by Estate of Flux is available here.

The earliest use of the term “Fourth Estate” to mean the media, is found in Thomas Carlyle’s book On Heroes and Hero Worship (1841): ” British politician Edmund Burke talked of there being “Three Estates in Parliament; but, in the Reporters’ Gallery yonder, there sat a Fourth Estate more important far than they all.”

The definition of “state of flux”: “A state of uncertainty about what should be done, usually preceding the establishment of a new direction of action“.

I am passionate about all things media, particularly the opportunities and reach brought about by online media, and the “new direction of action” element really resonated. So there you have it: Estate of Flux.
